2026

16 June 2026 · Porto

Portugal

4 photos

Porto in the last light of summer. The tiled front of Santo Ildefonso rising over the craft stalls of Batalha, the Atlantic chewing at the mussel-covered rocks out at Foz, tide pools gone green under the breakwater’s striped lighthouse, and finally the whole city on the hill across the Douro, waiting for the sun to go down behind the Arrábida bridge.

1 February 2026 · Sardinia

Sardinia

14 photos

Sardinia in February, with the island nearly to ourselves. The Sinis peninsula and the tower over Tharros in the last light, the beaches of Stintino under a moody sky, then the granite coast of Gallura, Tavolara sitting on the horizon and a full moon laid across the water.

2025

11 November 2025 · Marche

Gola del Furlo

4 photos

The Furlo gorge in November, from the water and from above. The Romans cut their road through here; we climbed the ridge instead and watched the fog fill the valley below.

18 October 2025 · Bliesgau, Saarland

The Tuscany of the Saar

2 photos

The soft hills south of Saarbrücken that people here call the Tuscany of the Saar. Orchards on the slopes, red roofs in the valley, and a tractor ploughing before the rain.

7 June 2025 · Venice

Venice

3 photos

An early summer evening in Venice. Across the water to the Giudecca, the Grand Canal going blue from the Accademia bridge, and a gondola sliding straight into the sunset.

14 February 2025 · Naples

Naples

6 photos

Naples in February, in the space between one shower and the next. The bay from the hill of Vomero, Capri on the horizon, and Vesuvius watching over all of it, from the castle and from the water.

2024

23 October 2024 · Grand Canyon, Arizona

Grand Canyon

1 photo

One frame from the Grand Canyon: the mule train climbing back to the South Rim, the rider taking it easy in the sun, and the canyon doing the rest.

21 October 2024 · Page, Arizona

Antelope Canyon

5 photos

A slot canyon cut by water into sandstone, a few metres wide and glowing from above. Every step is a different wall, and the guides know exactly where to throw the sand so the light shows up.

20 October 2024 · Zion National Park, Utah

Zion

4 photos

Zion in late October, the cottonwoods just turning. The main canyon first, climbing above the Virgin River, then the quieter Kolob side of the park, where the red walls get the afternoon light and almost nobody else.

2023

14 December 2023 · New York

New York

6 photos

Three December nights in New York, all of them spent outside once the sun was gone. Lanterns over Chinatown, Modugno’s lyrics in lights over Little Italy, and the skyline from every side of the water we could reach.
